SYDNEY ZOMBIE LURCH 2008

Posted on October 2008

Location: Archibald Fountain in Hyde Park, Sydney

Date: 26/10/2008.

Route: revised zombie route2.jpg

What you need:
-Your best zombie rig!

-Water. It’s going to be a warm day and we don’t want anyone having hydration issues.

-Sunscreen. Protect your skin, rotten as it is.

-Canned/nonperishable food for donation. I will be trying to arrange a visit from a charity organisation to pick up the donations at 3pm.

-Any medications you may need (zombies on ventolin…)

-ID, some spending money and a sense of humour.

-Extras. If you can bring makeup, maquillage, fake blood/body parts, old clothes or anything else that might help others ‘zombie up’ it would be great if you could bring them.

What we need:
-Meatwagon. If anyone has a van, we could use it as we may need to store personal items and/or have a temporary space for getting ‘zombied up’. If you have a van and are happy to place it at our disposal please send me a message to let me know.

-First aiders. Please let me know by Facebook message if you have a current first aid certificate, a basic medical kit and are willing to assist in the event of a minor medical incident.

-Photographer/s. We will need one or more people with a good-quality still and/or video camera to be the official photographers. Good photos of the event may be considered for the ‘Brains for Breakfast’ coffee table book being put together by Gary Kemble. Please message myself and Gary if you are willing to help out in this regard.

- If anyone else would like to help as a ‘zombie wrangler’ (”stay away, please, they may bite”) point of contact, Lurch Marshal or hapless victim, please message me to let me know.

Special Notes!

Don’t pour blood over your head! It gets everywhere and the council wasn’t pleased with it at the last one.

Don’t touch anyone elses camera! It might seem like a great photo idea for you to get up close to the lense but you can damage somebody’s camera and it actually makes a worse shot because you’re too close.

Don’t go into shops. Just don’t, okay?

Don’t use actual animal blood. It’s all a bit unhygienic.

WORLD ZOMBIE DAY!

Posted on September 2008

In 1968 a film was released in Pittsburgh that changed the face of horror history forever. It changed zombies from mindless undead slaves into flesh-hungry beasts that thirst for blood! Film history would never be the same.

Now, 40 years later, some new blood is picking up the rotten pieces and upping the ante.

Pittsburgh’s greatest horror hit “The It’s Alive Show” is proud to present…

World Zombie Day is the day that all ghouls from Kentucky to Kokomo, from Atlanta to Afghanistan, from Washington to Wales, and from Pittsburgh to Puerto Rico can celebrate together in a near orgy of blood covered bliss!!

Every major and minor city of the world that has ever hosted a zombie walk can band together and give one solid groan heard WORLDWIDE for the zombie cause!

RISE UP UNDEAD BROTHERS AND SISTERS!!!

NOW IS OUR TIME TO GROAN AND SHAMBLE FOR WORLD HUNGER!!

*World Zombie Day will be a day when all fans of zombie culture can join together. There will be an international charity event done throughout the cities involved to help alleviate world hunger, and this will be a first.

*“The It’s Alive Show”, World Record Holders for the largest zombie walk ever, will spearhead this event from the very birthplace of zombie culture, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.

*The participating living dead are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to each zombie walk starting point. A mass effort will be taken on worldwide to prove that charity, goodwill, and zombie love can flourish in every nation regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, or religion, and that no matter where or how we die…

WE WILL COME BACK!!!

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Six friends spruced up in fake blood and tattered clothing were arrested in downtown Minneapolis on suspicion of toting “simulated weapons of mass destruction.”

Police said the group were allegedly carrying bags with wires sticking out, making it look like a bomb, while meandering and dancing to music as part of a “zombie dance party” Saturday night.

“They were arrested for behavior that was suspicious and disturbing,” said Lt. Gregory Reinhardt, a police spokesman. Police also said the group was uncooperative and intimidated people with their “ghoulish” makeup.

One group member said the “weapons” were actually backpacks modified to carry a homemade stereos and were jailed without reason. None of the six adults and one juvenile arrested have been charged.

“Given the circumstance of them being uncooperative … why would you have those (bags) if not to intimidate people?” said Inspector Janee Harteau. “It’s not a case of (police) overreacting.”

Harteau also said police were on high alert because they’d gotten a bulletin about men who wear clown makeup while attacking and robbing people in other states.

Kate Kibby, one of those arrested, said previous zombie dance parties at the Mall of America and on light-rail trains have occurred without incident. Last fall, nearly 200 people took part in a “zombie pub crawl” in northeast Minneapolis.

Kibby said they were cooperative and followed the two officers to the station where they were questioned and eventually loaded into a van and booked into jail.

“It was clear to us that they were trying to get a rise out of us,” KIbby said.

Members of the group could face lesser charges like disorderly conduct, police said.

Zombies at Surry Hills Film Festival!

Posted on May 2006

This Saturday, Sydney flashes its creative streak with the Hopscotch Surry Hills Film Festival.

Now in its 3rd year, the city’s most eclectic collection of short films gives you two opportunities for a peek;

** ZOMBIE LURCHER’S, Free BRAINS & ( MOVIES with ZOMBIES )

Saturday 20th May, 1-4pm at the Gaelic Theatre, 64 Devonshire St. Surry Hills

When the only restriction on entries is a short time frame, the results have to be seen to be believed. This aint no Tropfest. And not just because we accept any type of film - we also judge them purely on the basis of creativity.

Our major sponsor is Hopscotch films, which makes us a bit like a martial arts tournament sponsored by Bruce Lee.

So if cutting edge cinema and ample refreshments are important to you, check the Hopscotch Surry Hills Film Festival. *
